Coliseum, Forum and Palatine Hill

We have tickets to enter the Coliseum at 12:45 pm. The tickets cover the Coliseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. Does it make sense to tour the forum and Palatine in the morning prior to our entrance to the Coliseum at 12:45? For average tourists, about how much time should we allow for the Forum and Palatine Hill in order that we reach the Coliseum entrance by about 12:30?

Any other thoughts or suggestions to make this day as interesting and fun as possible?

A couple of hours should do it for the Forum and Palatine Hill, unless you're an especially close student of Roman history and architecture. I didn't know you could reverse the order like that, but if you can it would make sense. I did Coliseum first but that didn't seem to bring any particular advantage.

I think you can do those two in the morning, just get there in time to allow a couple of hours and then maybe time to pick up a drink and/or snack before going into the Colosseum at 12:45. It will probably be pretty warm outside.
When we were there several years ago, the ticket allowed us to visit all 3 sites within 2 days, I think. We went to the Forum and Palatine the day before visiting the Colosseum. Splitting it up like that was really nice because there is a lot to see. Not sure if that's still the case, though. Enjoy!

Remember to bring snacks- there is no food or drink available in the Forum, and you have alot of activity planned.
