I have been debating about buying tickets directly from the official website vs signing up for a tour-Dark Rome, Rome Walks, Viator. When I go on the official website it does NOT allow me to buy tickets for September 11th-the only day I can do the ruins. It is most important to me to also go underground and third tier as well. So it would seem from previous posters that they wait to release the tickets? Besides calling them and paying for an international call does anyone know the deal? Also on the site it states that the underground/3 tier is available from " September 16th 2012 until August 31, 2013". Will I be able to see the underground/3 tier on September 11, 2013? I find this very frustrating and am Not purcahsing a Roma pass as that is not a value for me. I guess if I sign up for a tour group such as Rome Walks-even though they advertise the underground etc...I am assuming they are gambling that it will be operational/available, I sure would be pissed to pay $100-125 for that and it fall through. On the other hand if I wait for tickets to be released from the official site until a week before I go-what if it sells out?

As of right now they have not released tickets or tours for September or later. There is some speculation that the underground may be interrupted with the renovation that is going on. I would not pay a tour company 100-125 euros for a tour you can book on your own for 22.50. I would just wait to see if they actually resume the tours. If they do you don't need to worry about them selling out. They take lots of people down everyday on multiple tours. Donna
