Just so I have this right. The Colosseum and the Colosseum Underground Tour are two separate admissions? 12Euro to enter Colosseum than an additional 9Euro (plus reservation) for the Underground tour? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Jimmy
Correct they are seperate costs. You can't buy the underground tickets online you have to Call them.
We entered the Colosseum in December 2012 with our Roma Passes and went up to the window to purchase the Underground Tour that would be departing in a few minutes. Maybe the policies have changed in the past 2 yeatrs, but we didn't have to pre-reserve. It was well-worthwhile riding the elevator down to the lower level, and seeing the channels where water came in to flood the amphitheater for mock naval battles. Our underground guide then also took us to the upper levels.
This tour has become very popular in the past few years and sells out quickly, especially during high season. If you want to take it you should pre-book to guarantee a slot.
Just for clarification, the admission cost gets you into the colosseum, forum and palatine hill. The additional 9 euros is the cost for the tour (not an admission cost). There is also a tour of the main areas of the colosseum that costs 5 euros. You won't need to take both tours because the information about the structure is the same.

Hi All..Thanks for all the info! It's much appreciated! I just purchased (or I believe I just purchased) tix for Colosseum with print at home option. Does it typically take awhile to receive (email) of confirmation of the order? I received approval and confim# from UniCredit, but nothing yet from the Colosseum.
If you didn't get a pdf in the email then you'll need to contact them. They should be able to resent it so that you can print the tickets at home. These tickets don't include any tours, you'll need to call to book those.
You can try emailing them at: [email protected]
Give them all of your contact information and your booking information so they can resend the pdf. Also, check your spam folder to see if the email went there.

Donna --question: if the underground tour includes Forum and Palatine, do you know if one can enter those BEFORE taking the underground tour?
The underground tour doesn't include the forum and palatine hill. Your entry ticket gets you into all three of the sites: colosseum, forum and palatine hill. You don't need to book the underground tour to visit the other two sites.
If you purchased the print at home tickets or are using the romapass you can visit the forum/palatine hill before your underground tour. If you purchased your tour and tickets at the same time they don't let you pick up part of the package (the ticket portion) before the tour. If you bought the package you can visit the forum/palatine hill later in the day or even the next day with the same ticket.
