I'm a small time coin collector, and I was thinking of taking some new Canadian coins over to Italy and maybe find a market or coin store to do some trading/selling.. has anyone seen one of these more special types of shops/markets in the big cities? (Yes, I've tried using Google, but I get listings for the COIN brand of dress/clothes shops, nothing related to currency..)

I googled 'stamp and coin dealers Rome Italy' and got some results. You'll probably have to do separate searches for each city you're interested in.

Try searching for "Numismatic Coin exchange shops".
Several coin dealers in Rome show up. But none mention doing what you want to do. They all sell, none I see mention buying or trading. But I have not done an in depth search beyond a quick glance.

The only time I have seen coin traders is in open street markets. Now, I am not looking for stores so maybe they are there and I missed them. I have a small interest in coins but when I stopped at the booths they seem to be mostly very old coins. Not sure why they would be interested in new Canadian coins. My big concern about their coins, especially the Roman coins, was wondering if they were real and how could I tell a fake. Probably not.
