I have some extra time in the morning before St. Peter's Tour(not Vatican) tour line up for security at. Is there a coffee/pastry shop nearby to anyone can recommend? Thanks!

Hey, you are in Rome! I think by law or decree, there has to be a coffee bar every 15 or 20 steps. :) Chances are, unless it's a real bakery, the pastries are brought in anyway.

beth,

There are lots of Bars all over Rome and the St. Peter's area is no exception. Have a look at THIS map. I don't have a specific recommendation as I've found that most of them are good. As you may be aware you'll have to order at the bar.

A few blocks away, I found two: Pompi; Via Cola di Rienzo, 313, 00192 Roma RM, Italy
and Parenti; Via Ottaviano, 33, 00192 Roma RM, Italy. Both should be about a 2 minutes walk from St. Peter’s piazza. There’s also a McDonalds a block or so further that sells pastries; Viale Giulio Cesare, 199, 00192 Roma RM, Italy.

It's a little bit of a walk from the Vatican (maybe you could hit it on your way there), but Sciasia Caffe is an old-school place. Pop for the extra 10 cents to have them coat the inside of your cup with chocolate before filling it with coffee. Money well spent.

Have a 3C breakfast - Café corretto & cornetto.

Heading to the Vatican, that coffee should be a cappuccino!
