We are looking for advice on a coastal town near the airport that we could stay the night before our departure. We will have a rental car. We only need a one night stay. Our plane leaves FCO at 11:00am on a Sunday morning. Any suggestions of town or place to stay would be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at the Hotel Tiber right on the water in Fiumicino. Great location and reasonably priced. Good pictures on booking.com and their own website. Good breakfast. Nice restaurant, but pricey. We preferred some of the other places in town to eat, especially GePaGi for fried calamari.
We didn't have a car, so I don't know about parking. We used their shuttle. It isn't free. It says it's about a 10 minute drive to the airport, but I'd swear our shuttle driver got there faster using a back road. Gotta love those Italian drivers.

Also keep in mind if you are returning a rental car on a Sunday and need gas, very few stations are open on Sunday. You can get gas IF you have a working chip and pin card.

You could also consider the town of Bracciano (or surroundings) on the homonymous lake, about 35-40 min from the airport. Tom Cruise married there. On the coast, you can stay in Fiumicino or Fregene, or also Ostia Lido.

Self Serve gasoline pumps accept €uro bills too, not just credit/debit cards.
If you stay in Fregene (on the coast) or Bracciano (on the lake), both of which I recommend, you can take the freeway to the airport (A12). There is a Rest Area on the freeway with all services along the way to the airpor. That one is manned on Sunday.

We have also stayed in Fiumicino at the Hotel Golden River. It's been a few years, but we really liked it. There was parking right in front and lots of places to eat. I like that town as its so close to the airport. You have plenty of time to get to the airport and turn In your car.
