We were in Venice last summer and noticed one area fenced off with what looked like a construction zone. In viewing the live-cam of the Piazza in recent days, there appears to be three, sometimes four different fenced-n projects. Any recent visitors have any info on what those blocked off areas are all about?
I’m pretty sure they were excavating and relaying paving blocks.
One of the many, many things I love about Italy is the way their history is cared for. I'm just guessing but maybe there is work being done on the Piazza to preserve yet another very special place. Sometimes the covering that is put over buildings that are being maintained is a picture of what has been covered. Can't believe how many times I've heard tourists complaining about that!!!
I'm not sure that maintenance falls into the category of clutter
There is significant work being done on the drainage system under the Piazza, which includes numbering and then lifting all of the paving to create proper falls for drainage.
Aussie, that makes a lot of sense… hopefully they can solve the flooding issues there.
Can't believe how many times I've heard tourists complaining about that!!!
It is fine to complain, you plan a lifetime for a trip, and the Trevi Fountain, or Big Ben is covered in scaffolding, or Wally World is closed for maintenance, it's a bummer. The key is to move on, enjoy yourself, don't let it ruin your trip. I have pictures of scaffolding all over Europe, it just occurred to me that I should make up a Shutterfly book of just that, great sights in scaffolding!
