Clothing to pack for May travel

Hello, my husband and i are travelling to Cinque Terre and surrounding areas as well as the Amalfi Coast and surrounding areas from May 2- May 26th. I've been to Italy once before in june/july and it was super hot, with this trip being earlier I'm not sure what temperatures i can more or less expecte. Any info on what type of clothing to bring would be much appreciated, i do not want to over pack.
Thanks!!

Typically the weather is very nice for May (the best, IMO): Beginning May Averages: Max 23 C - Min 12 C
Last Week May Averages: Max 25 C - Min 15 C At most I would take a very light jacket for the evenings (also a light weight traveling umbrella in case of rain). Since you are going to seaside locations, shorts may be also appropriate (in big cities Italians wear more formally and probably shorts wouldn't be common in May). Leave sweaters at home. If you happen to run into a cooler than average year, just buy something there. The sweater will be your souvenir.

Personal experience traveling in Italy in May - HOT! Tuscany, Maremma, CT, Amalfi coast, Sicily, Piedmont, Umbria..all done in May, all in different years, very warm to HOT. Seems that every year we've been in Italy, in different regions, it's been very warm. The locals tell us it's the "hottest" ever spring. I pack a skirt and t-shirts (nice ones from JCrew) and I've started to take a maxi dress that travels well for evening dinners. If not touring during the day in the skirt, then a nice pair of capri length pants, not shorts, unless I'm away from town hiking. I always take a light weight sweater and sandals. I bring a scarf for color. Jewelry gets left at home, except for 2 pairs of inexpensive earrings and my watch. For my hubby, he travels in longer Bermuda shorts - always a solid color, dark grey, black. Polo shirts for him during the day...no t-shirts. Chaco sandals for his feet. For evening a nice pair of khaki pants and closed toe shoes. He does like his jeans, and might wear them in the evening. It's been too hot during the day for jeans. Always bring a rain jacket...you just never know, and the evenings are cooler anyway, especially in the country side. I would bring a light sweater..personal experience. You might use it on the plane (I seem to be cold in flight) and it's good in the evenings. It's also good for church tours to cover up, or as a cover up on the beach. I bring a cotton sweater (no need to wash it for a 2-3 week trip) it travels well and can be worn over the shoulders and tied around your neck to keep handy.
