We're going to be in the Dolomites for several days in mid-June. Does anyone think we'll need a jacket? The other places we're going in Italy will be warm. Hate to pack one if we don't need it. Average temps seem to indicate we won't. Many thanks!
I would take a jacket. It can get cool in the mountains even in June and especially if you are going to spend a couple of nights in the Dolomites which I would suggest you do. The Dolomites are beautiful and deserve some time to really soak in the scenery.
You will need a rain jacket for the rest of Italy in any case. WE had a lot of rain when we were last there, in late June. Take a good lightweight rain jacket, and one warm-ish layer (long sleeve microfllece or Capilene shirt) to layer under it when it gets cold. As stated above, it can get cool/cold in th emountains at any time, especially in the evening.
When we left my daughter's home in that region one month ago, there was snow in the mountains. The nights will certainly be cool enough for a jacket. I like to have one with me on the plane, anyway.
I was in the Dolomites in mid-June last year and definitely needed a jacket. You can layer with an undershirt, a long sleeved shirt, and a light rain jacket and be fine. You will want more than just shirt sleeves if the weather turns on you. We actually left our hotel with just light shirts on and began our day. When we arrived at Compatsch (walking of course), two of us actually bought lite jackets because it was going to be a miserable day without them. Lessen learned.
