Clothes and shoes

Are the prices of clothes and shoes in Florence and Rome about the same as the U.S.
Thanks much

That is a difficult question because of other factors such as value added tax. Straight retail to retail and using current exchange the US is probably still cheaper. But the US tends to have more sales and discounts so generally the same item in the US is often much cheaper. If you are looking for specific items in Italy, make sure you know the price in the US. Some items may qualify for the refund of the value added tax when you leave the country.

Returned from Rome yesterday but I confess I wasn't shopping. I would, however, be astonished if prices in the US were not cheaper.

Put it this way.....in my non touristy little town I've seen a pair of mens Levis go anywhere from 80-120 euro. I've seen Wranglers for a little less. This is in centro. I'm sure you could find better deals around town but still more expensive than the states.

If you happen to be in Italy in July (or January), you will find sales on almost everything (anywhere from 25-75% off). At other times, Italian goods will probably be at least as costly as they are in the U.S. If you are asking about shoes and clothing made elsewhere and imported into Italy, I don't know.

It is depend if you looking for quality and brands so the prices are very high, higher the in USA and Canada.
In Florence you can buy nice things from leather and not so expensive. It is not brands, but quality is not too bad.
