Trying to finalize our sightseeing plans for Florence and Siena for our trip this Sept 2014
I understand the Duomo Museum in Florence is closed, unfortunately!
I am trying to find out if Santa Maria della Scala in Siena is closed? Don't see that mentioned on the museum website at all- RS mentions several times in his Florence/Tuscany 2014 book that it might be closed- can anyone tell me if it is or if it will be first week on Sept?
Thanks
You can try contacting Santa Maria della Scalla. Here is the website http://www.santamariadellascala.com/w2d3/v3/view/sms2/newshome/index_en.html
I see you can't buy tickets online so I wonder if that means something.
Given the vagaries of construction projects and Italian opening times, I would not contact them too far in advance.
Thank you Robert- I actually have emailed for info- a few weeks ago and never got a response- I tried again today. Maybe it really is closed if no one is answering emails!
Thanks also Laura- I was hoping someone on RS staff might have updated info.
I was at Santa Maria Della Scala in May, but don't know about September. If you don't get a response, plan on a visit and if it is closed, use the time for an extended people-watching break in the Campo. I love Siena, but sometimes it is sensory overload.
As of today it is open and no sign saying they are closing in the near future. Make sure you get the Ops So card for the duomo, the baptistry, crypt and the Duomo's museum. Amazing even the third time!
Thank you Robert.
I did receive a response to my email- the museum is open in September. No mention of any upcoming closure.
