Closest Destination while in Sicily

Hi all
I have around 14-15 days to plan a nice euro trip and intended on spending some time in Sicily but also am curious what other area I could add into the mix.

I spent last year in 2 weeks total and did Rome , Florence (Tuscany) , Sorrento (as base) visited Capri / Positano / ischia as day trips and loved it. Our flights were always overnight therefore the first day we hit the ground running / explored due to excitement! However, this leads me to a few questions

  1. Would you say Sicily has a similar charm like Sorrento in certain spots and if so where? I can read that Toarmina may be closer in comparison to Positano but I may be wrong.

  2. I planned on renting a car and visiting some spots in Sicily that I wanted to see but am curious if I should visit a Greek island or somewhere else aside from Sicily while I’m out there. I’ve seen tours combining places Greece , Malta, Croatia with Sicily but unsure if anyone’s done that. I will note I have a high interest in Santorini and swimming in beautiful clear blue / turquoise waters so any recommendations in Sicily / Outside of Sicily would be great.

Seems a flight to Athens is 1 hour 30 mins. As well as a ferry being 5/6 hours from there to Santorini

Sicily can keep you busy for the whole 2 weeks for sure. No need to add anything. If you want to add the smaller island around (Egadi islands or Aeolian islands), then two weeks may not be enough for all.

Visit Palermo without a car (maybe that is where you fly to) for 3 days, then rent a car and visit the island around the coast and maybe some spots in the interior, likeSegesta, Piazza Armerina and the Villa del Casale. Then after a full circle return to Palermo for your flight out. If you fly to Catania do the same, however Palermo is too congested to have a car while in the city.

Two weeks is the minimum I would want to have for Sicily, so I would look at the islands there before loosing at branching out and spending more time in transit (and really it need not be an island, some coastal spots could fit the bill, too)--the Aeolian, the Egadi.

I would spend the whole two weeks in Sicily, instead of wasting precious holiday time with long transfers mostly for the sea.
For beautiful transparent water for swimming you can't beat San Vito lo Capo.

Also, amazingly, considering it's so close to Palermo which is not exactly pristine, Mondello beach also has spectacular transparent water.
If you prefer rocks to beach and are a good swimmer check out, for example, Favignana Cala Rossa - a short boat ride from Trapani (which could be a good base also for San Vito).
Fontane Bianche near Ortigia/Syracusa was another fantastic surprise for the clear waters.
I have swum in all of the above places and the water really is beautiful.
