Make sure you have really good medical insurance that does not have an exclusion for that type of activity.

A few years ago I was with my then-21-year-old son for a few days in the Cinque Terre. He spent part of an afternoon happily jumping off high rocks into the ocean, along with maybe a dozen other (mostly Italian) young people in Riomaggiore. The rocks are on the south side of the inlet. I sat where I could see the action and thought that the clearance into the water looked safe. He was jumping from perhaps 20-30 feet high. Maybe it's not a "cliff" but it felt plenty high to me!

Thanks for the replies ! So,he would take the train to these cities from Vernazza? Wondered if there were boat trips that take them to the cliffs to dive ?

This spot comes up reasonably often among daredevils wanting a wet adrenaline rush. Probably some other spots as well; I'd have him ask some of the younger locals but be SURE it's a known place where the water is deep enough. I wouldn't jump just anywhere.

And yup, I'd agree about the insurance.
Yes, he would take the train. No, no boat trips to the leaps that I know of: walk or swim. Make him do his research. Manarola is the 2nd village north of Vernazza and 7 minutes by train.

Editing to add: LOL, Jessica, you beat me to it! :O)
