Classic architecture/view central Rome lodging

Hello, I'm looking for hotel recommendations in Rome central district with a classic Rome vibe. Not modern/plastic. We plan to visiting the Colosseum, Forum, Trevi, Pantheon, Vatican, and all the usual other suspects, and want to find a place that reflects that as well as have proximity to great restaurants and shopping. We aren't necessarily budget driven.

I did try to find an answer by reading past posts, but I haven't seen the question posed quite this way. Thank you for your time and recommendations. We really appreciate your help!

I recently stayed at Hotel Martis Palace which is extremely central and may tick some of your boxes. It’s been updated so amenities are modern, but the design incorporates elements that seem to me to refer back to Roman architecture.

My wife and I had a very good experience staying at Casa Il Rosario in the Monti district in summer 2019. From there we visited the places you mentioned. Most were an easy walk. Going to the Vatican required a bus, but the bus stop was very close to the lodging. Lots of decent restaurants in the Monti area.

We found Il Rosario in the 2019 Rick Steves Italy guidebook. Only downside was that the entrance closes at midnight, so if one plans on being out late this place is not an option. It is run by the Dominican Sisters.

I always recommend the Hotel Napoleon with the metro entrance right at the front door of the hotel. It’s a classic hotel with big salon, AC, nice bar, fabulous restaurant, bend-over-backwards employees. You might think the area is not so nice, but I think it’s quite authentic. Trattoria Vecchia is just around the corner. Excellent all around

We stay at Albergo Del Senato right next door to the Pantheon. Rooftop bar with 360 degree view. Lovely, elegant hotel. Ranks #7 out of 1,300 hotels in Rome by TripAdvisor.

Our 1st runner up was Hotel Campo De Fiori, which is literally right around the corner from Piazza Campo de Fiori (you’ll want to visit, wonderful market place). We had read such good things about this hotel and even walked by just to see. I would have had no issues staying here, and I think it checks off your requirements, also. However, it’s not as centrally located as the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, maybe a 10 minute walk. It’s still considered “central” though. Go to booking.com, they have nice pictures of the hotel. Ranks #20 out of 1,300 hotels .
