On Trenitalia I saw we can get to Florence via Pisa from Civitavecchia. Has anyone done this? Is it far from the cruise port to the rr station? Is the station in Pisa one of those with stairs and tunnels to traverse in order to change trains? We'll all have suitcases. The big draw is the low cost vs. schlepping to Termini from the port plus the train to Florence.
Ideas welcome.
From the port to the station is about 1km. That's a significant 20 min walk to do with luggage. Once you get to Pisa you need to change trains. There is no way to know if it will be in the same platform. If not, you will have to go under the underpass and walk up to the required platform.
The cost may not be that much more via Rome, if you take the train from Civitavecchia to Rome, then change trains in Florence.
Easiest thing, with luggage is to get to Roma Termini (main station in Rome). From Termini in Rome you can get a direct train to Florence.
