Civitavecchia port to airport

We are taking a cruise late October that arrives in Civitavecchia. Unfortunately, our flight out of Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport was just changed to leave earlier. What is the fastest way to get from the port to the airport? Money is a bit of an issue, so some private drivers might be too expensive.
I appreciate all advice. Thanks.

The train is probably the cheapest option. The station is about 1/2 mile from the port, so it's a 15 min walk.
The train option however takes close to 2 hours when everything is said and done..
Take a train to Rome, then change at the Trastevere station for a train to FCO.
There is also a bus that takes you to the airport for about 20 euro each, but there are few runs.
There are lots of companies that offer private transfers, including www.romecabs.com, which is a reputable company. But you'll need 130 euro for the 50 minute car ride to the airport (up to 3 people).
See all options here.

Go to http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en to see the schedule for your travel day. Using Regionale trains, it is 11 EUR per person and takes about 1 1/2 hours. More departures in the morning, but at least 1 per hour in the afternoon. As Roberto says, change trains at Roma Trastevere.

What time is your flight? Does the ship offer a transfer package to the airport? I am sure they do - but expensive. Without knowing you time window, hard to make a recommendation. You may have few options as there is no direct public transit link to the airport.

I have used Civitavecchia Cab Service, you can get quotes online and book and pay the driver. They charged me 69 euros from the cruise terminal to historic Rome, for 2 pax with two suitcases and 2 backpacks. They were on time but there were 8 of us in the van so we two waited on others to get off the ship, find the driver, load up. Taxis are about twice the price.
Be SURE that if you use a private transfer that you go to the side of the terminal, and don;t stand around in the front where the ship's bus transfers depart.
Train would not have any traffic issues, and I have taken the train before, I just like door to door service on flying days.

Google Maps reports 48 minutes by car from Civitavecchia, and no entry needed to Rome. The train is well over an hour, and with a change in Rome lots of things could happen. If it's as close as you say, there is no alternative to paying for a car transfer. The train is a terrible idea. It's also a looooong hike into town (or a fight for an overpriced local taxi to the train station.) Having just been there in July 2016, I think Rick's books understate how annoying it is to get to and from the train station. The advantage of the cruise ship transfer (+- 125 Euros!!) is that they will be waiting at the ship's side. You won't have to take the shuttle bus to the port transit center. I also think they will let you get of "first", i.e. with the fat cats.

Not all cab companies are allowed to enter the port and drive onto the pier.

I sort of remember that the cruise company won't take responsiblity for departures before some hour, like 10:00AM, maybe.

Having arrived on two cruises at Civitavecchia, I think there is NO chance your ship will be late arriving, so check very carefully when they announce the precise schedule. (Of course, everything on a cruise, including the ports of call, is subject to change without your approval.) But they have to "turn around" the ship, that's why they won't be late to disembark.
