Sailing the HAL Eurodam, docking in Civitavecchia August 14, 2016. Visited Rome for extended periods before. Would like to do something else and the tours seem to be based an small groups and for 2 become too pricey. Thoughts? Is there enough to fill the day just in Civitavecchia?

Many find Tarquinia an interesting day trip from Civitavecchia. Tripadvisor has reports with practical information on getting there.

Not sure if you plan to rent a car but the Argentario peninsula is a good place to visit.
