I'm working with Rick's 2013 Rome book and the walk from the train to the port entry area looks very doable with our roll-on luggage. But somewhere else I read that the port entry was moved.
1. Was it moved?
2. If yes, is it still a less than a 10 to 15 minute walk?
Many thanks.
Dave
To the best of my knowledge the entrance to the port has not been moved / changed, but I might be wrong. If it is still in the same place, simply walk out of the train station, turn right, and walk straight ahead. You will come to the port entrance in 10 to 15 minutes and then catch a free shuttle bus to your ship. Very easy walk -- particularly if you have a roller bag. Do not go down the stairs and walk next to the beach. If you stay on the original train station level it will gently slope down to the port entrance level and you don't have to mess with any stairs.
The entrance to the post has been moved due to construction near the castle----you can catch the shuttle about 50 yards past the castle--making it about a 20 minute level walk from the station---this is going to the ship.
Coming from the ship the shuttles were dropping you off in a parking lot further from the station---there was a shuttle bus to the station for like 1.5e--or about a 30 minute walk. There were also busses at that same lot providing shuttles to the airport for a fee.
hope this helps--note this may have changed as construction progresses---check on the cruise critic Italy board for more recent info

Thanks for the update, Paul. Wasn't aware construction had caused a change. Is the entire route still straight forward and walkable?
Hey TC
still pretty straight forward going to----just walk as before on keep going when you get to the fort-----coming back is a different drop point-----a lot longer walk but a cheap shuttle to the train station or a pay shuttle to FCO.
Paul
Thanks again. Nice to know ahead that the old faithful route has changed a little. Not the kind of surprise that one likes to have.
