We will be spending 4 days in and around Sorrento and then travel to Civitavecchia for a cruise. Does anyone have advice for the trip from Sorrento to Civitavecchia ? We will not be driving and I am traveling with my 85 year old mother.

You have to come through Rome. There is a direct bus back to Rome from Sorrento. From Rome it is basically a commuter run - three to four trains an hour, 45 mins to 1:15 depending on the train. From the Civit train station it is about half mile, four or five blocks, to the port entrance and a shuttle bus to your ship's check in point. Can she walk well?
