I understand that the parking lot is at the bottom of the hill. I cannot walk up that hill. Is there transportation up into the town? Thanks!
When we were there we saw no transport across bridge to village. It is a tiny village with cobbles and uneven surfaces everywhere, prob best to admire from afar if you have walking difficulties.
The parking area is pretty much next to the beginning of the bridge. The bridge is fairly level until you get right to the village wall. The bridge spans the valley - you don't go to the bottom and back up.
Walking around in Civita is level - although the surface is uneven. Don't start down the back trail or you will have to climb back up the hill.
crockett,
As mentioned, the car park is right next to the start of the bridge that leads into Civita. The lot itself is at the bottom of a hill, but depending on which parking spot you get, that part is reasonably level so you may not have to walk too far "up the hill".
The Shuttle Bus drops passengers a bit further up, so if you'll be using that to reach Civita, it will be a bit more of a walk.
There is NO transportation from the car park into the small village of Civita di Bagnoregio. The concrete bridge is not wide enough for cars, however I've seen some of the "locals" zipping along the bridge on motorcycles or Scooters.
About the first third of the bridge has a slight downward slope. After that it changes to a noticeable upward slope, which "zig-zags" a few times before finally reaching the entrance to the town (it's unfortunate they don't allow photos here, as one of my photos would make things very clear).
Hope this helps. Happy travels!
