Any thoughts about visiting these areas in December? I'm concerned about the weather and if places of business will be open. I'll be in the area Dec 26 - Jan 1.

I don't know about Civita, I have been there in early spring but not in December, but we have friends who have spent Christmas in the Cinque Terre and they loved it. They were in a restaurant having supper and heard music. They went outside and there was a procession to the church. They followed and went in and sat down. They appeared to be the only foreigners at a local Christmas concert. The citizens of the town were the performers. All of a sudden the locals started singing a carol, I don't remember which one, in English and they felt that it was for them.
I don't know which town that happened in but I can find out if you would like to know.
