Civita Day Pack

I have heard many museums are not allowing backpacks. Does anyone have experience getting in or not with the Civita Day Pack?

Thank you

They'll often have a cloak room at the front door where backpacks can be temporarily left. It's no big deal to leave and return day packs there.

As someone has said places that forbid backpacks usually have bag check and/or lockers. At the Rodin museum I had to wear my Civita back on the front, but honestly when a black one over one shoulder people often don't even notice it to object.
I think the Backpack rules are in place because of people with 'real' backpacks and sometimes small ones get lumped in.

I just switched to the Civita Shoulder Bag for this last trip and twice it was allowed when backpacks were not and I was never told I couldn't take it somewhere. It is really basically a 'man purse' so if they allow purses they can't really object.

I'd say take what you want and it will work out so don't worry about it too much,

They don't want backpacks as people forget they are on and can damage the artwork.

If you carry it in like a shoulder bag you will have a much better chance of getting it in. If you then try to put it on your back, you will be told to take it off.

Why not check with the museum ahead of time and if they do not allow backpacks, leave it in your hotel room and use a small purse instead

Since this topic is about backpacks, I am going to buy my first one in many years. I have been using a purse and over the shoulder carry on bag when I travel which is causing me flare ups of health issues. Some friends have suggested a backpack instead..

Is Civita a backpack brand? What about RS backpacks? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the purpose of the daypack is to have what you need with you for the keeping at the hotel room would defeat the purpose if you are out for the day
visiting various museums and places would it not?

"Civita Day Pack" is a particular RS bag model.

I have an Eddie Bauer bag that is very similar, a tiny bit bigger, and have not had any issue in the museums etc., where I have been. It is usually no more than 1/3 to on rare occasion 1/2 full on day trips. I carry it, not wear it. ( except for extended walks outside)

I've looked at the Civita Day Pack and it is just the kind of pack they want checked. Even some stores, both in Europe and the US, ask that you check your pack to prevent accidental damage to items in the store.

Have you traveled to Europe before? I think you have three choices. Take something much smaller that will fit essentials, maybe just a money belt or neck wallet, adhere to their bag checking rules or forego the museum or store that requires checking the backpack.

The Civita is larger than what I normally carry during the day. I just carry a Tenba DNA 8 or a Peak Design Everyday Messenger 3L. These are very small camera bags that will hold my small Fuji mirrorless camera and a couple of lenses.

If a museum does not want its visitors wearing a pack while in the museum, then more than likely they will provide you with a locker. All museums that we have visited that have this requirement have provided storage for our bags. It does not defeat the purpose of this type of day bag as far as I can see.
