In May after a stay in Florence, my daughter and I will have 2 more days before making our way to the Munich airport to fly home. I was looking at Cinque Terre but I have been there before so thought I’d put it out there for suggestions. I realize this is the Italy forum but it doesn’t have to be in Italy as long as it makes sense for getting back to Munich. Hopefully that makes sense!
The train goes through Bologna, Verona, Bolzano, and Innsbruck (Austria), assuming you are going by train. If you have only a couple of nights to spare, I’d choose Verona among those. If you are in Florence long enough, and would like to see also Bologna, it’s an easy day trip by high speed train (36 min each way).
Looking at Roberto's list I would also recommend Verona. The old town is beautiful, genteel and full of restaurants, shopping and is largely pedestrian. It is a great city to wander in and enjoy that elegant decay that the Veneto does so well.
If you're looking for something to replace CT and are open to travelling from Verona there is Lake Garda as an option or Venice is ~1.25 hours away by fast train. I realize you will need to unwind any travel additions to Verona but if the lakes or lagoons speak to you the logistics are pretty easy.
Have a great trip,

Consider these: Verona, Lake Garda towns, Trento, Innsbruck, Garmisch- Partenkirchen. All between Florence and Munich. All beautiful destinations. Some bigger, some smaller.
Thank you so much - I think I’ll look at Verona - I appreciate the tips!
Will you be spending any time in Munich?
Yes, the first few days are in Munich, then a few cities in Switzerland, Florence and then now I’m thinking, probably Verona!
