cities + beaches on the train

We'd like to plan a 14-16 day family trip to Italy, seeing Rome, Venice, Siena, maybe Pisa? We've been to Florence, so it's not on our priority list. And interspersed these sight-seeing places we're hoping to spend time at a few beaches. I know the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terra, and Amalfi Coast are recommended, but is there a good itinerary to hit all these on public transportation (preferably train?) Or, are there fun beaches near Venice or Pisa that we could incorporate? And where would we fly into/out of (coming from the US West Coast)? Thanks!

I suppose thaf my first question is WHEN is this trip happening? Beaches aren't really a year round thing for Italy. Second, you mention staying at multiple beach locations; are you aware that most of the more well known beaches are gravel, not sand? How many days out of your 2 weeks do you want to spend at a beach?
The Venice Lido has a sandy beach, as does the CTs Monterosso.. I'm sure others will offer other suggestions.

As for itinerary, look at flying into Venice, then work your way south and fly home from Rome. Look for a multicity ticket, not 2 one ways.

... fun beaches near Venice...

Don't think you can go wrong with The Lido. And it's easy to get there and back from the city itself using the vaporetto system (water bus).
