Hello, One more question, please. Has anyone visited the Cirque Terre in the off-season particularly the winter? Is anything open for visitors? Thanks. Walter
Walter, Visiting the Cinque Terre in the winter is not really a good idea, as many of the tourist businesses are closed at that time of year (that's their "holiday time"). In addition, the weather is usually not too favourable. There's not a lot to do there, so activities for inclement weather are a bit "limited". Cheers!
Most hotels will be closed, most restaurants will be closed, and most shops will be closed. And moreover, most of the hiking trails will be closed most of the time as they become very dangerous in poor weather conditions. I can imagine better places to get bored during winter ....
Thanks for the quick responses. So what would be the laest in the Fall to visit the Cirque Terre? Thanks again. Walter
Hi Walter, I'm going to swim upstream on this one and tell you how much fun my family had in the Cinque Terre this past winter. We left for Italy Christmas afternoon and arrived in Vernazza after a day in Venice (our 4th trip). In contrast to the hustle and bustle of the Christmasses I'm used to here in the states, there was a single lighted Christmas tree in the square right in front of the harbor. The restaurants were open and ready for guests, even the Cannoli brothers were making fabulous pastries in their bakery. 2 years ago, Vernazza suffered a devastating flood, and the residents have not only restored it to beautiful condition, they are open for business and eager to get their lives back in order. My wife and I have always travelled off season though. We'd much rather fit into the daily routine and the beauty of the simple everyday lives of the places we travel. In the Scottish highlands one year in Winter, we wandered into a local church sale and made some friends we will have for life. There are many people who like the pace of the full blown tourist experience and that is fine for them. To truly relax, explore and become embraced in a location is where my family enjoys to be. Whichever season you choose to visit, the Cinque Terre will be fabulous. Have fun!
And Walter, it's "Cinque Terre", not "Cirque Terre". I figured you would want to know.
Good catch Michael. We certainly wouldn't want Walter ending up in Circus Land...no matter what time of year!
Yup. I sure missed that one. And I even saw the Rick Steve's show on the Cinque Terre. Lol
