Circus Maximus

For those who do not regularly check into the "travel news" section:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/16/brothels-bars-and-betting-shops---last-surviving-remnant-of-anci/

The structural remnants around Circus Maximus, which have been fenced off for years during restoration, are now open. The open field itself has been open to walking all along, and we used that route last years to walk from our apartment in Trastevere to the Coliseum area. But now one can get an up-close look at the remaining structures.

Well worth a visit if you are going to Rome.

Apparently the hours are 10 to 4, Tuesday thru Sunday (closed Mondays), from now until Dec 11, and the tickets are 5 euros each for non-residents. Starting Dec 12, it's open Saturdays and Sunday from 10 to 4 and Tuesday through Friday through reservations. I haven't found a website to prebook the tickets and whether they are for specific time windows.

Here's the Italian:
L'area potrà essere visitata fino all'11 dicembre dal martedì alla domenica, dalle 10 alle 16 e dal 12 dicembre il sabato e la domenica dalle 10 alle 16 e dal martedì al venerdì su prenotazione allo 060608. Il prezzo del biglietto intero è di 4 euro, ridotto di 3 per i residenti e per i visitatori un intero a 5 euro e un ridotto a 4.

Terrific link! Thanks Lola! This is now on my list for my next visit to Rome.

I, too, cut thru there a few years ago with my nephews on a quest to find the Aventine Keyhole.
