I've been looking on the Circumves. site at schedules, info and still have some questions I hope can be answered here. We are going cicumves. to Pompeii from Naples, taking the Poggiomarino line to our hotel in modern Pompeii (station P. Santuario). We will return to Naples the next day via the scavi station on the Sorento to Naples route. Can I buy both tickets at Naples the day before (one way for each). Do they sell tickets at the Scavi station so I would only get my one way ticket to Pompei in Naples? Then I'm looking at the train schedules on their site. What does "Feriale" mean? When it says "Ora", I know that is time[INVALID]-but is that the time it arrives or leaves that particular station? What is "DD" and "DIR" in catagories? Thanks
Can I buy both tickets at Naples the day before (one way for each). ANSWER: YES. Do they sell tickets at the Scavi station so I would only get my one way ticket to Pompei in Naples? ANSWER: YES. Then I'm looking at the train schedules on their site. What does "Feriale" mean? ANSWER: Monday through Saturday. "Festivo" means Sundays. When it says "Ora", I know that is time-but is that the time it arrives or leaves that particular station? ANSWER: Departure time. What is "DD" and "DIR" in catagories? ANSWER: "DD" is slightly faster because it skips a few intermediate station. P.S.: Have you tried the English-language web pages?
Any time you buy tickets in advance (other than from a machine), be sure to check the dates.
Not sure what Zoe is driving at. Most tickets are open and have no date which is why they have to be validated in the little yellow boxes. If a seat reservation is required then the ticket will be dated because it is time and train specific.
Thanks for answers to my questions[INVALID]I did use the Circumv. English site, but the schedules and those terms I requested were in Italian. Just to clarify[INVALID]-I CAN buy tickets at the Scavi station and buy just one way tickets either way? Correct? It is my understanding that the Circuv. trains don't take reservations[INVALID]is that correct? Thank you again
Buy your ticket at the station before boarding the train; you don't need a reservation. This is a local train.
Yes, you can buy your tickets at the scavi station. They only sell one way tickets so you don't have to worry about that. You will have to validate it because it won't be for a specific train. If you want to you can buy your tickets when you get to the train station in the morning that way when you wish to leave you just hop on the next train that pulls into the station. Donna
Circumvesuviana doesn't have reserved seat in train-specific services.
Circum... is a comuter train (kind of like a subway) that just goes around Mt. Vesuvius. Just buy the ticket, walk down to your train and watch your valuables (I mean, board your train). You'll see!!! Other than that, it's about a 45 min. train ride to Pompeii.
