I am booking a train reservation from Napoli to Roma. We are leaving from Sorrento at 8:26 and arrive in Napoli at 9:17. The fast train leaves at 9:50 to Rome. Is that enough time to make the connection? Thank you.
Usually it is plenty.... But anything can and will go wrong. If you are pre-booking, I'd allow another hour just in case.
It should be but I agree with Laurel and allow more time just in case. Just did this trip in July and allowed extra time from Sorrento to Naples. We got to Naples and had time to spare so just sat at McDonalds in the station and had a relaxing coffee. Much better than stressing about missing your train. Happy Travels!
The Circumvesuviana runs about every 30 minutes, you should be fine arriving in Napoli Centrale (Piazza Garibaldi) at 9:17, but if you want to take the Circumvesuviana a half-hour earlier, that extra cushion of time might leave you less stressed. Time for capuccino and a sfogliatelle (flaky phyllo-type pastry filled with sweetened ricotta and fruit), specialty of Napoli.
When you are in Sorrento check whether there are likely to be any disruptions on your day of travel. The service is subject to cancellations because of strikes or lack of rolling stock. The company has been in financial trouble for some time and payment of staff salaries is often delayed/not the full amount. Talks between the company and its staff are taking place at the moment. I agree that you should give yourself plenty of time and go for an earlier train. An obviously more expensive option is to book a private car transfer, should cost about 70 - 80 euro.
