Any comments on Cinqueterre? I plan to visit Cinqueterre in early October and received a reply to an email request for a room that said (in part) "I feel compelled to inform you that due to the Oct 25 flood and landslides, the village of Vernazza is in a bit of a disarray. Some of the beauty, character, charm and shopping conveniences of the past are lacking at this point in time. In fairness I have lowered my nightly room rate to 65 Euro, hoping that travelers will still be encouraged to
visit and stay in Vernazza Does it make sense to stay in Vernazza (if I can find a room) or should I look at one of the other towns?
We were in Vernazza in late June and I was impressed with how far they had come with repairs. The area near the harbor was at about 90% and there were lots of tourists there spending money and making for a festive atmosphere. You would have to look closely to see that anything was amiss. Farther up the hill, there were more street-level shops closed and/or in the process of renovation. Given what I saw, I would have no qualms about staying in Vernazza, particularly at a discount. You are going to be spending time in other villages anyway.
Thanks Randy- I kind of thought it would be ok but your confirmation helped. I'll take the rooms he discounted
