Cinque Terre with Kids in April - Weather and Accomodations

We will be there the first week in April and I've seen some comments that trails might be closed. Any experience or thoughts on this out there regarding the weather that time of year?

Also - having a very difficult time figuring out which town to stay in - they all seem to have their charm. I was leaning towards Monteserro because of the beach - not because we could lounge around and sunbath, but because my kids (9 and 12) love playing in the sand regardless of how cold it is. We are planning to stay 3 nights and any apartment type recommendations would be appreciated. I did see the recommendation for Riomaggiore which I will check into - but wondering if there are any suggestions for Monteserro or Vernazzo.

Thanks.

We stayed in Vernazza via Egi Rooms which we learned of via Rick Steeves site/book in May 2006. He rents out his family's apartments to guests since they now live in La Spezia and I highly recommend him. We settled things via email and then once we were in Italy we confirmed via phone which train we would be on so that he could meet us at the train station. Egi was so nice he helped carry our luggage to his apartments and even made sure we had a little welcome of some danishes and fresh coffee for the morning. He has 2 rooms one has bed/bath and the other has a bed/bath and kitchen area for 120 euro per night in 2006.

He doesn't accept credit cards so you just pay in cash when you arrive and you are set. I highly recommend him.

Monterosa does have beaches but you can easily get there by train and there is a laundry there as well which makes life easier.

Thank you - that's very good information - after further research I was leaning more toward Vernazzo so will definitely contact Egidio.

Vernazza is lovely and the Pizzeria there is yummy:) What is nice about Egi's rooms is the location. You enter from the little main street and the stairs then go up inside unlike other apartments where you climb endless stairs outside to find more inside to climb. Also the train that runs between the little towns is again so convienant. Have fun...
