Cinque Terre vs Sorrento/Amalfi Coast

Am deciding between Cinque Terre (Vernazza) and Sorrento/Amalfi Coast for 3 days to fill up my itinerary which includes Rome (3 days) , Florence (4 days), Venice (2 days).
For this 3 days am looking to just relax and enjoy time with my wife, see some nice views of the sea , nature and the nice old architecture. Can't decide between the 2 as the C.T
fits more nicely into the travel route cos it's along the way. However, Sorrento seems like a good base to explore other sites for day trip (Amalfi /Pompei (which seems interesting). Sorrento is also a little out of the way so it means i have to make at least 1 long train ride to my other destinations.

Also which is mor eexpensive in terms of food and accomodation?

Kenneth, I suspect the Amalfi coast will be more expensive in terms of food and accommodation. The Cinque Terre is a bit "rustic and informal" so a big contrast from the Amalfi Coast.

Kenneth in my opinion there is no comparison between CT & the Amalfi Coast. The coastal road along the Amalfi is breath-taking with it’s hairpin bends, post card views & towns built clinging to steep mountainous terrain. Rent a scooter in Sorrento, drive the coastal road and have dinner in Ravello ~ truely amazing! The Amalfi coast is going to be a little more pricey, but worth every dollar. I stayed in Positano at a moderately priced b&b with spectacular views overlooking the deep blue water! Have fun!
