Cinque Terre Train Card

Does anyone know the answers to these questions? Thank you in advance.
1---Can the Cinque Terre TRAIN card (I am not doing any hiking) for 1 day be purchased at Levanto train station?
2---Does this card allow a person to hop on and off a train in the Cinque Terre, all day and night without having to buy any more train tickets for that day/night?
3---Does this card have to be validated?
4---Can it be purchased the day prior to travel?

lisa,

Regarding your questions.....

  1. Yes, AFAIK the Cinque Terre Treno card can be purchased at the station in Levanto.
  2. I believe the one-day card is effective for one calendar day, until midnight on the day of purchase. It can be used on all second class Regionale trains between Levanto and La Spezia.
  3. Yes, as I recall it has to be validated just once prior to first use.
  4. Yes, it can be purchased the day prior to travel since it doesn't become effective until it's validated.

Hope this helps.

Lisa, it's called the Cinque Terre Treno card. It provides unlimited train travel between La Spezia and Levanto for the time period shown on the card - 1-day, 2-day, 3-day and 7-day. It also provides free travel on any of the park trails. Yes, there are trolls on the famous trails staffing toll booths. It also covers transportation on the mini-buses in the different towns. You can purchase these cards in any TI office or in many other shops. Here's a snapshot to show you what they look like. http://gyazo.com/c33c65da2db8cf30031793f2d614ebde It does have to be validated at the first stop. It can be purchased day of travel if you need to.

Thank you so much! That is great news about the bus situation. I did not know the Treno pass covered bus also. That seems to make it worth it to me. A friend recommended buying individual KM tickets for distance and said that the treno pass was much more expensive than individual tickets but I like the idea of one pass that I only have to validate one time as well as being able to hop on buses.

Does anyone know where we can find bus schedules online for Cinque Terre? I would use the bus to go up steep sections of the villages. Any insight on that would be appreciated. I have a hard time walking up steep inclines and stairs.
