Cinque Terre Train

Does anyone know if our Eurail Global Passes will work for train rides between the towns of the Cinque Terre?

We plan to purchase the Cinque Terre Card for access to the hiking trails. But we wonder if our Eurail Global train pass covers the trains between towns.

The point is why would you want to use valuable pass days on a very cheap train ticket?

We have the Eurail Global Pass, which gives unlimited travel on the railways. You may be thinking of the Eurail Selectpass, which allows only a select number of travel days. Because the Cinque Terre is so small, we simply wondered if trains between the towns were covered by the Global Pass...we wonder if the Global Pass isn't valid in certain locations like this.

It should, the train between the villages is not a private line like the Circumvesuviana.

We have the Global pass because we will be traveling through multiple countries over the course of a month this summer. Sounds like we can use it on the trains in the Cinque Terre. Thanks for the info!

Lisa,

One point to note regarding use of your Railpass in areas other than the Cinque Terre, is that passes do NOT include the reservation fees that are compulsory on some trains (usually the fast trains such as the TGV in France). You'll have to pay separately "out of pocket" for the reservations.

Your Railpass package will include information on that, however you may find it helpful to download the free PDF Rail Guide from the "Railpasses" section on this website (click the tab at the top of the page).

Cheers!
