Does anyone know if what trails are open of the five? I read trail from Vernazza to Monterosso is the only one open of the five major ones.
Here is the website for the park system with the status of the trails.
http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/sentieri_parco.asp?id_lingue=1 You can check back there every so often to learn what other trails may have opened since you last looked.
Terre, As you noted, the only No. 2 (Sentiero Azzurro) trail that is currently open is the Monterosso - Vernazza section. It's expected that at least one of the others will re-open soon, but I haven't seen a definite date for that. As you'll see from the website listed in the previous reply, the No. 2 trails are not necessarily "the five major ones". There's an extensive network of trails in the area, but the No. 2 is favoured by most visitors as they're relatively easy and quick to hike. Note that a Park Pass is compulsory to hike any of the No. 2 trails. Even if some of the No. 2 trails are closed, it's very easy to get from one town to another using the local trains. Happy travels!
Hi Terre, I was just in CT a couple days ago staying in Monterosso. Monterosso to Vernazza was the only "open" trail, and the only one I did in full. However, many people were doing all of the hikes. Of course I cannot advocate that it's allowed or encouraged. But, like I said; LOTS of people on them. Also, I met a coue that did some beautiful long hikes above Monterosso, Vernazza and ended in Corniglia I believe, they said it was lovely!
I almost let concern about trails being closed stop me from going to CT, and so glad I went It's like waking through a postcard, just being in the villages!
Cat, You are just the post I was wanting to hear! At least I know if all are not open one on oceanside is. Also not to let let trail closures stop me from wanting to go. I believe you are talking about trail 6 and I plan on doing that one. Can you suggest anything other to do, places you stayed and quick food stops? Thank you so much!
