Cinque Terre Trail map

My fiance and I are going to Cinque Terre for 3 nights, 2 full days as part of our honeymoon. We've heard that many of the coastal trails are closed, but the other trails are open. I had a bad experience of almost getting lost while hiking in Nordmarka in Norway (a recreational area north of Oslo where you shouldn't get lost...), so I would love to get a map.

Is there a good place to get a paper map of the trails, like at a train station? We are staying in Manarola and getting to Cinque Terre from La Spezia.

Rick's book says that Manarola train station does have a national park office, as does La Spezia Centrale station (at Platform 1).

We are in the city right now, only some of the trail from Monterrosso to Vernnasa are open, all the hill trails are open and plenty of people are here hiking, but not the coastal trails. The town is beautiful since the flood they have redone everything. Lots more restaurants and stores, we are really surprised since being here in 2008. You really get a feeling everyone is having a good time.

Hi, Judy - I am excited, even if many of the coastal trails are still closed. It's good to know that things are getting better since 2008!

Ken and Laura - thank you! I'll keep my fingers crossed about getting a map; if we can't, I'll be sure to ask for directions.

cowl,

You're very welcome!

The status of the Sentiero Azzurro trails can change from day-to-day, depending on weather. If you're only planning to hike those segments of the S.A. that are open, I doubt you'll need a map (I've never used one). The trails are marked to some extent, and there will likely be many others doing the same thing, so just follow the herd.

I usually find that starting from Monterosso is the best plan, as that's the most challenging section (quite a steep climb at the beginning). There are also some narrow sections, but they're not difficult. Be sure to take lots of water!

We were able to get a trail map from our hotel. The train station in Monterosso also handed us one when we purchased our Cinque Terre passes. When we were there in September, the trails between the first and second and second and third towns were closed. We hiked between the third and fourth (Corniglia & Vernazza). The trail was very clearly/easily defined, and we had no problems with getting lost or even deciding which direction to turn. That stretch took about 1.5-2 hours and was stunning! We chose not to hike between Vernazza and Monterosso, as we were told that was the most challenging and longest stretch (if my memory serves me, 2.5-3 hours), and it was nearing dusk. Enjoy!!

They give you a map when you buy your park/train ticket at the train station.
