Cinque Terre trail app

We are looking for an app that shows all the Cinque Terre trails and their status. We have not been able to find the one referred to in Rick's book, the Cinque Terre ViTour Hiking Guide, nor is the national park website of much help.

No idea if this is any good at all:

I didn't look at it but what I suspect is that it doesn't record status. That can change quickly for any given trail so I'm guessing there isn't an app that tracks that sort of thing. Remember: while the CT is a hot tourist destination, it isn't exactly 'linked in.'

You can always check with the park offices regarding which trails are open once you're there. Sections of the #2 Blue (Sentiero Azzurro) may very well be closed but plenty of the higher, longer trails should be open. The park's website is not all that bad but it helps to translate the Italian version versus relying on the English - which is not as complete. Use an online translator!

The most accurate website to check the status of the trails is the Parco Nazionale website provided by Kathy in the previous reply. I don't know of any Apps that indicate current status.

I'm wondering if you guys could recommend a trail from the official park website that is less crowded than the #2 blue, but still scenic, and not too long or too difficult for casual hikers? We'll be there in about a month. Thank you.

gw300,

Trail #2 is crowded, that's for certain, and it is not easy. We like to go to the higher trails.

From Manarola you can catch the little shuttle bus (I think at 9:00 but check locally) to Volastra and hike first level then down to Corneglia. It's lovely and more tranquil, although the section down to Corneglia requires care and good hiking shoes. We also like to use trekking poles.

There's a nice hike in Vernazza up to the Santuario above the town, Nostra Signora di Reggio with a rewarding view at the top, but there is a bit of elevation gain. Nothing technical and very easy coming down. :-)

From Riomaggiore you can hike up to the Santuario di Montenero, again a bit of uphill, nothing technical. Ask locally for directions or research online.

gw,

I've only hiked the Sentiero Azzurro trails, so those are the only ones I can comment on. You could perhaps ask the staff at your hotel when you arrive, as they will be more familiar with the trails. Hopefully Laurel will spot this Thread as she's more familiar with the other trails that go higher into the hills.

The official parks website mentioned in the previous replies has a time estimate for hiking various segments, so that may provide you with some ideas.
