Cinque Terre to Venice conundrum

What do you recommend for our itinerary? Rome and Florence are locked in already, but trying to swing a side trip to CT before Venice. Realizing now how time-consuming it is to travel from CT to Venice. Do we scrap CT? And spend an extra day in Florence or Venice? Do a day trip
From Florence to CT?

Days 1-6: Rome, Florence
Day 7: CT
Day 8-9: Venice
Day 10: Depart Venice for US in a.m.

CT to Venice will eat up the better part of a day, 6 to 8 hours, whereas Florence to Venice will take 2 1/4 hours with frequent trains, Skip the CT and do it when you can devote more time to it. Spend an extra day in Venice so you get more than a day and a half.

hey hey sip4270
when is this trip and how many people, are you traveling by train or car?
drop CT and add to venice. lots to do & see in venice and you are not giving it enough time. how many days in rome and how many days in florence?
check -in times are 3-4pm and check-out times are 10-11am, take that into consideration. you do not want to be roaming around with luggage, usually your hotel will have luggage storage until check in. do you have hotels booked in rome and florence with your transportation figured out?
venice is a place in itself and beautiful getting lost, only issue i have is so many flights to USA are so so early morning, call it "dark thirty"! we reserve and take a private water taxi$$$ (motoscafivenezia.it). many people like landing in venice, getting over "jetlag" it's real then trains south to florence or rome, plus FCO has many options to fly back home.
what are your plans, activities, attractions hoping to see. make sure you rersve tickets at their own website, day/time stamped. people here are the forum are great to give you options to help you out, we are only volunteers that have traveled alot making lots of mistakes, make holiday simplier and be prepared. you can research, agree or disagree, it's up to you. don't be cramming to see everything, it won't happen, enjoy what you can, stop and smell the bolognese and cappucino, taste gelato and great pastry. keep asking questions. enjoy and have fun

I have to agree with skipping CT and adding the day to Venice. The logistics are against you and you are choosing to lose almost a day - CT to Vencie is 7-8 hours door to door - for one day there. And just checking that when you say one day you mean two nights. You need 2 nights to get one full day somewhere. Most people here track nights which helps with lodging and transportation questions. I try to never spend one night anywhere except when it is needed for travel logistics - like being somewhere the day before you fly out.

When you're planning at some point you're going to have to make some hard choices for the better of the overall trip. I think you're at that point. If you have to throw in something for that day do Lake Garda which is sort of "on the way" to Venice instead of completely the opposite coast.

My $.02, it's your trip but I think the group consensus will agree,
