Cinque Terre to Tuscany

Hi!

We are staying two nights in CT and then headed to some of the hill towns in Tuscany. I’ve seen a bit posted about driving from Pisa, to areas like San Gimignano, but not from CT.

Is it feasible to get a car in CT near the train station? This was an option on Europcar. Or best to take train to Pisa and get one there.

Thanks!!

Which village in CT? There are 5, but I doubt there is much in the way of rental agencies in most of them. Possibly in Monterosso. Definitely in La Spezia, which is near the CT. And where would you drop the car afterwards?

I would have no problem picking up a car in La Spezia as opposed to Pisa. It's more driving but train from CT village to Pisa probably means a few changes unless you catch an IC, airport tram etc. Plus you have to get from the airport station to the rental car pick up. I am not familiar with Pisa airport don't know how much of a hassle that would be. I definitely would not want to get a car air Pisa rail station. I researched that once and IIRC it just seemed like a driving nightmare to get out of there safely.
I hope Roberto comes along with his advice.

I would get the car in La Spezia. There must be more than Europcar- check with AutoEurope.com.
(not that there is anything wrong with Europcar)

If you are planning to stop along the way to your Tuscany location just be careful of luggage in car. Make sure it is all hidden before you park.

La Spezia has rental agencies from the various major companies. Nearly all are at the cruise port.
You can take the train to La Spezia Centrale, then a taxi to the agency you rent from.
Use www.autoeurope.com to find the best option.
Rental offices in La Spezia are closed on Saturday afternoon and Sundays al day.
If you plan to travel on those days, then Pisa Airport is the only alternative. Take the train to
Pisa Centrale, then the people mover from the station to the airport (5 min ride).

Europcar has an office in Rapallo, which is not too far from the train station and is on the way to Tuscany as opposed to backtracking to La Speiza. It also appears that the Rapallo location is much closer to the train station then in La spezia .

Actually Rapallo is west of the Cinque Terre, on the way to Genoa, therefore opposite to where you need to go to get to Tuscany, which is south East.

Rent in La Spezia.
