Cinque Terre to Sorrento

Hello everyone,

We are planning a trip to Italy in late May. We originally had planned to take the train from Cinque Terre down to Sorrento overnight and have booked hotels in CT on the 26th and 27th, and Sorrento on the 29th. I am having fair difficulty finding out how we are going to get from CT down to Sorrento as it appears there are no night trains with sleepers.... can anyone advise how they have made this trip in the past? Since it's such a long trip we'd like to avoid losing a whole day to this.

Right now we are slated for 2 days Venice, 2 days Florence, 2 days Cinque Terre, one night travel, 3 days Sorrento and 4 days Rome and then we fly home. Would it be smarter to switch Sorrento and Rome if we cannot find a night train?

Any advice is much appreciated!!!

Claire
Is there a way to do this overnight by train or should we change our trip around

My suggestion is to switch Florence and CT in your schedule. From Venice go directly to Cinque Terre. it is about a 5 hour train ride so catch an early morning train and you can be in Monterosso by 12 pm. From CT then go to Florence. Florence to Naples is about a 3.5 hour train ride on the euro star. When you get to Naples hop on the circumvesuviana and an hour later you will be in Sorrento.

Don't cut anything out, just move things around a bit and problem solved. I realize you already have a hotel booked for the 26th and 27th in CT but you should still have plenty of time to find something on the 24th and 25th. Who knows maybe your hotel you have now also has vacancies on the 24th and 25th. Good luck.

Hi Scott - great recommendation! I hadn't even thought of that. I'm going to try to swap the hotels around - shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Thanks!!!
