Does anyone have experience leaving from Monterosso on the early train (6:45am) to Milan Centrale (arr 9:55) and catching Malpensa Express? We have a 2:35 international flight out, so I'd like to be at the airport by 11:30 at the latest. Any thoughts? Is it too tight? Do trains run late? Is the Milan international terminal a zoo? This would be a Sat in July. We could leave CT the night before to stay in a Milan hotel if need be.

Based on your research I think you will be fine if you can get to Milano Centrale at 9:55. The Malpensa Express bus takes one hour, so you still have 30 min to spare. You'll probably need to wait a few minutes for the bus, but 30 min should be plenty of cushion. Malpensa is not a zoo. It is in northern Italy, not Rome. Never had an issue there.

Malpensa Express trains on the new service between Milano Centrale and Malpensa Aeroporto depart at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. If your train from Monterosso arrives on time, you'll have 30 minutes to buy a ticket and board the 10:25 train and you'll arrive at Malpensa at 11:17. The train that departs at 10:55 arrives at 11:38. Malpensa shuttle buses run every 20 minutes. If everything goes smoothly, you'll be fine. However, I don't recommend that you chance it. If your train from Monterosso is late, you'll be in big trouble. Stay in Milan on Friday night.
