Cinque Terre to Florence and wine country

Hello! My husband and I will be in Cinque Terre the middle of May (no car) and would like to travel to Florence in one day and see the Leaning Tower of Pisa on the way. What is the best way to do this? Private Driver? If that is the best way, do you have a company that you would suggest? We also would like to visit some wineries and see the countryside south of Florence. Do you suggest staying in Florence and taking a wine tour or is it possible to stay in the countryside in upscale accommodations and have a driver take us to wineries. What wineries do you suggest? Thank you so much for any information to help make our trip enjoyable.

Debbie,

If I'm reading your post correctly, you're planning to stay in Florence once you leave the Cinque Terre, and not just take a day trip there?

I'm not sure many here will have experience with "upscale accommodations". Could you provide further information on how "upscale" you're considering? If you're looking for luxury accommodations, a private driver to provide transportation for several days and cost is no object, I can suggest someone that might be able to help.

You can easily train into Florence and hit Pisa on the way. The Trenitalia train site has all the schedules and prices.

I am going next week and will have a car while staying in Montecatini. We will drive to La Spezia, park and then go into the Cinque Terre by train. We will train into Florence for a day trip. We plan on driving to other country towns -- driving in Italy is fine in the smaller towns and countryside, but you do NOT want a car in the cities. Too many confusing streets, stop lights, parking hassles and no-traffic zones.

I'm sure there are lots of tours you can take, which I'd recommend, since a drive is just going to drive you, not help with the context of a place.

Have fun!
