Hello! We will be in Moneglia on Oct. 1 and need to fly to Barcelona. Would it be best to take the train to Milan, stay overnight and fly out on Oct. 2 or is it realistic to do the travel from Moneglia to Milan to Barcelona all in one day? Is there any better way to get from Cinque Terre to Barcelona? Even though it's long, I would love to take a train. Please advise. Many thanks! -- Mary
Can you fly to Barcelona from Genoa? ( Vueling)
Or from Pisa or Florence?
It's about 925 km over to Barcelona. That's a long way by train as France is a larger country than most people realize.
I suggest flying, but Genoa only has few non-stop flights. You can get to Pisa easily by train, and they should have better connectins out of there.
Both Moneglia and the Cinque Terre are located in the region of Liguria but Moneglia is in the province of Genoa and the Cinque Terre is in LaSpecia. I agree with Christine’s advice about flying out of Genoa (GOA). There’s also a nonstop flight from Florence on Vueling.
If you opt for a train instead expect to make six transfers and the journey takes 19h. I don’t see an overnight train either. In 2008 I took a direct overnight train from Milan’s central station to Barcelona but with an increase in low-cost airlines in Europe overnight trains are not as popular anymore.
