Manuel's Guesthouse. It is in Monterosso. However, it is not for everyone. You have to walk up a fair amount of stairs to get to his place but it is well worth it. The view from the terrace is amazing. My fondest memory in CT was sitting on his terrace drinking a beer from his self serve bar (there is wine too) and watching lighting storms roll across the mediterranean. You will meet people from all over the world on that terrace. The rooms are clean and the place is very affordable.

We are staying at Camere La Torre next week, they have been extremely accomodating and friendly thus far. We'll let you know how it goes!

We just stayed with Martina Callo and it was fabulous. Room number 1, which sleeps 3-4. 73 steps straight up, but not bad once you ditch your bags! She has a room (#3, I think) that has a very nice terrace if it's only 2 of you. Book early!

Vernazza was a great home base for off season, but I would imagine in June it will be a zoo. We looked at many of the other rooms that we had debated. You will have some noise no matter where you are. Either train or people.

Trip Advisor was the best resource for info for us to make a great decision. Read all the reviews and then contact as soon as possible.

Have fun. We didn't want to leave!

We are staying at Hotel Villa Steno in Monterreso - While I can't speak to actual experience, they have been very accomodating and helpful both on email and on the phone - I was booking rooms for 2 different families with 2 kids each, and they were very friendly & helpful.

I always recommend the towns of Manarola & Riomaggiore over Vernazza or Monterosa. The other towns are more touristy and party places at night. Especially now that the CT has been discovered. After hours in Manarola and Riomaggiore are quieter, with fewer tourists in the evening, when all the locals come out for passagiata. Day trip to Vernazza & Monterosa. As far as specific places to stay, there are several good clean places in any of the towns. If you can, get a place with a terrace.

My husband and I stayed at Edi’s Rooms in Riomaggiore (www.wel.it/Vesignaedi). This was our favorite place we stayed in Italy. We were in the Case Mimi room which had a huge balcony overlooking the sea. It was very clean and just the perfect location. It also had a refrigerator, coffee maker, and table and chairs inside the room to eat. This room was 80EUR. They did have other rooms to rent for less as well. Edi is also recommended in the Rick Steve's books (and when you go to their office they have X-mas cards from Rick's family).
We liked staying in Riomaggiore because it was connected to the Via Dell Amore which is an easy path to the next town Manarola (approx 20min walk). It's also great to watch the sunset from the rocks in Riomaggiore.
Have a great trip!

Cornelia is the smallest of the CT towns, and not visited as much as the other towns. After sunset the town belongs to the locals and any lucky visitors staying there. It's got a couple of restaurants and enotecas. It is very quiet & pleasant. The problem most people have with Cornelia is the mountain of steps from the train station to the town above. Wheeled luggage has to be carried. The steps are tough without any luggage. One way to avoid the steps is to get off at the train station in Manarola or Vernazza and catch the shuttle bus to Cornelia.
