We enjoyed Gambero Rosso in Vernazza. The cost was about 60 euros(dinner) with wine. Atmosphere is fun and very casual with a few cats wandering around looking for food under the tables. The meal was excellent.
Il Caselo on the waterfront in Old Town Monterosso. We ate there 2 of the 3 nights it was so good. Our meals averaged 150 euro for a party of 2 adults & 2 children which included a bottle of wine (for the adults) salads and 3 desserts along with our meals. 1 daughter had your basic spaghetti both nights but the second eats the seafood & meat like the adults. In addition to a beautiful view, we had great service and food. Also, the owner is married to an American, so speaks very good english in case that matters to you.
Trattoria Il Porticciolo in Manarola was really good. Dinner for 2 with house wine ran around 50 euros. Here is a link to their menu... http://www.ilporticciolo5terre.it/menu_eng.htm.
Don't miss breakfast and dinner with the Pirates, up the hill from the train station in Vernazza.
You won't believe the pastries at breakast. And our dinner was fantastic. We visited with the whole room of diners and enjoyed the joking brother (the quiet one in the kitchen was funny in his own way!)
Two students taking a break from studying in Rome had thick hot chocolate and canolis for "dinner" Wise choice! We were too stuffed for the hot chocolate, but the Pannacotta and Canoli were awesome!
We ate at a restaurant in Manarola that was wonderful. It's on the left side as you're walking towards the harbor (and in Rick's book) Painted pink inside, free cookie and dessert wine with the book. Amazing frutti di mare antipasti. Sorry, the name escapes me and we tossed the guide books to lighten our load.
Have fun.
Wherever you go to eat, while you are there you must try two things. First the pesto and second the anchovies. Ignore whatever preconceived notions you have about anchovies and try them. It will be one of the best meals you have in Italy.
