Cinque Terre - Places in Vernazza, or ... ?

We are going to CT on September 14-16 (3 nights). I talked with an American living in Vernazza who said that it is a busy time and that Vernazza was pretty much booked up (of the places that she knew about). After reading Trip Advisor, we are considering the following places in Vernazza: Maria Capellini, Tonino Basso's, Rosa Camere, a Ca' da Nonna, or La Marina. Which of those are recommended (or NOT recommended)? Are there any that we missed? We really don't want to risk getting there and not having a place to stay -- It’s our honeymoon. Second, if we can't find a place to stay in Vernazza, then our choice is either Riomaggiore or Manarola. Which of those two do people like?

My husband and I stayed at Edi’s Rooms in Riomaggiore (www.wel.it/Vesignaedi). This was our favorite place we stayed in Italy. We were in the Case Mimi room which had a huge balcony overlooking the sea. It was very clean and just the perfect location. It also had a refrigerator, coffee maker, and table and chairs inside the room to eat. This room was 80EUR. They did have other rooms to rent for less as well. Edi is also recommended in the Rick Steve's books (and when you go to their office they have X-mas cards from Rick's family).

We liked staying in Riomaggiore because it was connected to the Via Dell Amore which is an easy path to the next town Manarola (approx 20min walk). It's also great to watch the sunset from the rocks in Riomaggiore. Very Romantic!

Have a great trip!

Seriously DON'T discount Monterosso. My fiance and I just had an AWESOME time there on our honeymoon. I don't think you could go wrong with and of the 5.

(Except Cornelia if you like to swim)

And please check out Angelos Boat Tours in Monterosso. It was a PERFECT honeymoon activity for us and one of our favorite days of a 3 week Swiss/Italy honeymoon.

We stayed at La Marina in September last year and it was quite simply the highlight of our trip to Italy. It was the private patio off the bedroom that sold it for me when I was searching online for a place to stay. The view did not disappoint! Christian and his mother were very professional and easy to deal with - he met us at the train station and checked us in personally. I definitely would stay there again. One warning - MANY stairs!

I just returned from Cinque Terre and thought that Vernazza was EXTREMELY crowded. We stayed 2 nights in Corniglia and one night in Manarola. Our hotel in Manarola was La Torreta and it was fantastic. Champagne when we checked in, awesome wine/appetizer hour, great rooms, and great breakfast. Several of the couples we met there were on their honeymoon.

We're going to be there in only 3-1/2 weeks and it's hard not to panic just a little bit. Therefore, how hard should we work to be in Vernassa (or any other village for that matter)? Changing rooms in the middle of a 3-day stay in the CT seems too much like exercise :)

While Vernazza is probably the most picturesque in the CT, I always recommend Riomaggiore over Vernazza. We stayed in September several years ago, and found that Vernazza is more of a party town at night. Riomaggiore is more relaxed in the evening. Plus, even at this late date, you may still be able to reserve a room with a terrace. Lots of rooms in Riommaggiore & Manarola with terraces, not many in Vernazza, if that's important to you.

We always stay in Toninno Basso's rooms ar the top of the town. Quieter, yet only a 5 minute walk to the water. Also it is right next to Il Pirata with the best breakfast and dinner in town. The 2 btothers are nice and very funny. Toninno's rooms come with AC which you will not need maybe, but also a computer for your use and they are very, very, very clean.

Thank you everyone. We found a nice place in the middle of Vernazza that has a good reputation. We strongly considered Riomaggiore for at least one night - But this planning, with only 3 weeks to go, is exhausting! If seems as though the success of Rick Steves' is making it difficult to find places to stay, especially in CT.
