Yes, late to be booking accomodations but I was hoping someone had advice on where to stay: tried Rick Steve's suggestions, travel advisor, & multiple websites. I am going in August. Thanks in advance.
Hi Kelly- We were in the Cinque Terre in May. Loved it. All the 5 towns are different. We are photographers and went everywhere, but stayed in Vernazza. We loved Toninno Basso's rooms at the top of the town. No view, but the nicest rooms you've ever seen, air-conditioned, very very clean and on top of that he has a computer in every room for you to check or send emails. He only has 4 rooms . Hard to get in, but worth it.He is in Rick's Italy book..Jane
You really can show up at some of the places that Rick mentions in his book and find a private room. You can also go to the tourist bureau in Monterosso al Mare and ask them. They know locals who rent out their apartments. The only problem will be that all of the Italians to the sea in August so it will be crowded and private apartments will be more likely to be used by their owners. Try to go mid week - always good advice - and arrive first thing in the morning.
