We would appreciate the latest info. regarding parking at Cinque Terre. We will be staying in Vernazza in August. Is it still best to park in La Spezia if coming from the south and, if so, where is the parking lot? Are there other alternatives?
Thanks in advance...
Hi Cynthia. There is a new parking garage at the train station in La Spezia. Another option is to drop your car before you go to CT and take trains until the next time on your trip (if at all) that you need a car.
Enjoy your trip!
Cynthia, in general, tourist cars are not permitted in any of the five CT towns. There is a 5-story garage coming into Riomaggiore. I understand that it closes in the evening. There is also two lots near the beach in Monterosso. You are permitted to drive to these lots. Lastly, there are some parking lots high above some of the towns. They are not large and they are packed during the summer. A car is not advised in the CT.
Cynthia, Having a car in the Cinque Terre is of little value, as it's probably going to be parked and gathering dust for the duration of your visit. The roads into Vernazza were severely damaged in the Oct. 25th floods, and I'm not sure if they're open for other than local traffic at this time. There is parking in some of the other towns (especially Monterosso), but in summer, it's going to be busy and of course you'll be paying! There was a new lot under construction when I was in Monterosso last year, but I'm not sure whether it's finished? You might consider dropping the car in La Spezia, if you won't need it after that. If you'd rather park, there's a new parking lot in La Spezia near the train station. Have a look at This Website for details. Happy travels!
