We are spending 2 weeks in Italy in early November. Cinque Terre and Lake Como are highly recommended by friends but I’ve read that it can be rainy and foggy that time of year, and that many restaurants and hotels close down. Is it worthwhile to visit these areas in November or should we remain more inland? Tentatively thinking of flying into Milan, take day trip to Como if weather is nice ( otherwise see Milan). Then on to Venice, Florence, and fly out of Rome.

I think this is a good strategy for that time of year.
We were warned about fog in November by a local resident on Lake Como.
Many of the businesses in the Cinque Terre will be closing for the season in November, so that's probably not the best time of year to visit. Weather could also be an issue.
If the weather is decent, Varenna (Lake Como) could be a nice place to stop for a few days, although it will likely be quiet.
Unless there's something definite you want to see in Milan, you might want to focus on Venice, Florence and Rome (with day trips) as there's more than enough to do for two weeks in those places.
You could also consider a different smaller lake south like Bolsena north of Rome. Drop the CT and Lake Como and look more at Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany between Florence and Rome for those days.
I agree with Roberto.
A nice thing would be to go to the hot thermal sulphuric waters of Saturnia.
When I went there on a very rainy day, we went bathing inthe hot river and it was quite an experience. Mind your silver belongings, they would become black.
