Cinque Terre or Amalfi Coast/Sorrento

Okay, so here is the scenario: We are accompanying my parents on a trip in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. My mother has never been to Europe, my dad was there in the 1950s. My husband and I have been to both CT and AC so we know what wonderful places they are. We can only choose one location for 3 nights. A day is blocked for transportation to either place in addition to this. We are traveling in July/August, I know both places will be crowded at that time (we visited in September). The choice is so difficult so my husband said "see what they say on the Helpline". So my question is, if you had to choose, where would you go and why? Thank you!

How mobile are the parental units? If this is a major factor, the scenes are easier to see via vehicles along the Amalfi Coast.

Both are relatively fit. My mom walks 2 miles 4 or 5 times a week at home and my dad is active. Neither could handle a steep hike like that between Vernazza and Moterroso al Mare (sp?) but would be fine for regular walking and shorter climbs with stops to catch their breath.

I vote for the Amalfi coast. Check out the concert schedule in Ravello. I can't remember the name of the famous villa there, but they have concerts around that time. BTW: I have been to both and love both.

Hi Lise,
Another option might be staying in CT then travelling to Santa Margherita and Portofino for a day trip via the train. Or maybe making a day trip to Lucca, but I don't know how far/long it would take via the train. We stayed one night in Lucca, prior to going to CT, last year (Sept/Oct) and really enjoyed it and wished we could have stayed longer. In Lucca you can rent bicycles and ride around the city and around the city walls.
