Hello Travel Community -
I would appreciate insights into accommodations in Cinque Terre as we will be there SOON.
An opportunity came up to go from Ireland (where I am visiting my daughter) to Italy for about a week and Cinque Terre sounds like a great place to walk lots, relax, enjoy a LOT less traffic than Dublin!)and reflect on things. We'll be ther Sept 29 (yes, this year) til Oct 4 or 5. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If I could have a dream time there - we'd have 2 rooms and a table to write at with a view (a veranda/deck shared with others would be fine. Since I am from land-locked Alberta I would LoVe an ocean view - or to be near the ocean - maybe that is asking too much.
Thank-you for your time,

Clover,
When we went to the Cinque Terre, we stayed in Manarola. We rented an apartment from a rental company called A Casa Cinque Terre. We had a wonderful view of the ocean, but our particular apartment had only one bedroom. However, he has many properties that he rents that do have multiple bedrooms. The owner's name is Claudio. He lives in Manarola.
Here is the webpage: http://www.acasa5terre.it/houses.html
If you wish to reserve in advance, just send an email. We reserved that way and found Claudio to be reliable.
I think there is a possibility that you could reserve a place when you arrive. If you want to go into town and reserve when you arrive, when you go into town, walk to the Marina. Bear right with the Marina Piccola restaurant awning on your left. Turn right up a street that climbs up hill, via di Corniglia. A Casa Cinque Terre will be on your right.
Hope this helps!

Look at the website above. This room to rent is located in Riomaggiore. My husband and I passed it after we got off the elevator just a this a short ways.
We sort of talked with her as we didn't speak Italian an she doesn't speak English. We would stay here if we ever got back to Italy and CT. You might find some other places to stay on this site also. If you want to PM me with your email, I'll forward you a Kodak gallery of pictures we took while visiting with her for about 1/2 hour. She also gave us two jade plants from her yard - we graciously accepted them then planted them along the Via del Amore'. She was very hospitable.
If you have the time to do some more extensive research, to go www.tripadvisor.com. Go into the Forums sections. From there, go to the Italy forum. In the Italy forum there is a pull-down menu of subforums. There you will find separate forums for Cinque Terre, as well as several villages in CT. You should come up with no shortage of options.
Once you have a list of prospective accomodations, in each of the subforums that you visited there will be a link for Hotels in the left sidebar. Click on the link. Then type in the accomodation of your choice in the Search bar. You will end up with more reviews than you will want to read.
Buon viaggio!
Thank-You All! I'm off to research-land with the assurance that we willl find a location to enjoy our week in Cinque Terre.
Now, as it has been rainy in the Emerald Isle much of the time my daughter has been working here - sun is what we need the most! can anyone offer us a nice, bright, sunny collection of autumn days while in the Cinque Terre?
with gratitude,
Clover S.

Clover,
Even at this time of year, I'd try and "lock down" some accomodations fairly soon. If you want to stay in Riomaggiore, try Mar-Mar Rooms or Manarola try La Torretta or Hotel Ca d'Andrean. You may have the best chance of getting lodgings on short notice in Monterossa al Mare, as it's the largest of the villages and has the best selection (not to mention the best sandy beach!). Vernazza seems to be an especially popular choice to stay, especially with RS readers, so you may or may not find lodgings there. Corniglia is located on top of a cliff and while it does have an ocean view, it's more "distant" than that of the other towns (where you can hear the waves crashing against the shore).
Hopefully you like Pesto, as it seems to taste especially good in the area where it originated. If you're planning to hike the trails between any / all of the five villages, note that a hiking pass is required. You can buy this at any CT train station, but be sure to validate before using for the first time.
Hope you have a great time in the C.T.!!!
I DO NOT recommend using A Casa Cinque Terre to book a room. My husband and I stayed in Vernazza in Patrizia 4 at the beginning of Sept. We paid her cash when we arrived, which we understood was the standard procedure. However, several days after we left she also charged our credit card for the full price of the room. Claudio from A Casa has washed his hands of the problem, and Patrizia has not responded at all to our attempts to communicate with her about the issue. So, we are now out $300. Beyond that, our bathroom smelled terribly of sewer.
Jeni,
Contact your credit card company and protest the amount of $300. Let them know what the problem is and eventually you will probably have the $300 taken off your card. Good luck!!!
I went to the Cinque Terre a few years ago, and it was simply the best week of my life!
I stayed in Monterosso al Mare. It was amazing.
A little too late for your trip, but we just got back from there, and stayed at La Spiaggia in Monterosso (new town)which was totally gorgeous,we had a huge balcony overlooking the ocean, and I would definately go there again.
